What smells attract and repel spiders?

Spiders have a strong aversion to certain smells. Peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, and lavender essential oils are known to repel them. Conversely, they are attracted to environments with abundant prey (like other pests), so any smell that attracts insects can indirectly attract spiders as well.
